Frank Sinatra School of the Arts - Queens, NY

the names of influential artists' appear as light screens on windows around the school

The Frank Sinatra School of the Arts was one of nineteen 21st century school buildings featured in the recent Center for Architecture, NY exhibition, The Edgeless School: Design for Learning. The exhibition showcased schools from across the U.S. that blur distinctions between learning needs, approaches and environments.

The school was founded by entertainer, Tony Bennett, and his wife Susan Benedetto, to honor  friend, Frank Sinatra. At Mr. Bennett’s encouragement, students are offered the opportunity to gain experience in the arts through internships and apprenticeships along with a challenging academic program, pre-conservatory studio work, experiences with cultural institutions, and intensive participation in community service.

I had the privilege of touring the school with Principal, Donna Finn and architect, Susan T. Rodriguez of Ennead Architects LLP.

Light fills the central core of the building creating wonderful spaces to sit quietly on all levels. Stunning state of the art performance hall and professional dance and music studios.
